Management:
Interim Executive:
Sometimes it seems
impossible to accomplish large projects within an active business. In these
situations, often the advise received by the CEO is "worst-worst case"
because managers are already too busy and don’t believe they have the time or resources to
get the job done. Just being too close to the issues over time can cloud the
vision and people get locked into impossible solutions with wrong assumptions while
forgetting what the real objectives were. Why does outsourcing project leadership
work? Sometimes it’s the fresh perspective, specialized experience, new blood or just the
confidence, focus & enthusiasm of a new player on the team. A temporary
executive, leading the team, focused on the project, someone who can bring out the best
in your own people, is often the way to make it happen. We can provide that
senior player.
Tasks can include starting
a new business division, extensive internal process re-engineering,
restructuring the company to achieve specific targets, technology assessment and
upgrading of infrastructure or team building with current and new staff. We
offer hands-on experience in all these activities.
Performance improvement is often the result for your business.
Change Management:
This is a general term for
large projects that significantly change the structure or focus of the business.
In particular, people are often affected and managing their expectations,
perceptions and concerns can be a large part of such projects. In one situation,
our Interim Executive assumed line authority for those groups most affected and
the changes were made over a one year plus time period. This method worked well
on this assignment, however it depends on the particular situation.
Project Management:
Taking charge of a project
can include involvement with the initial design and planning, managing the
internal people resources required while adding or contracting any specialized additions
required, working with outside specialist consultants, architects, contractors,
municipal authorities and keeping senior management well apprised of the
process.
Technical Executive:
The application of new, but appropriate technology to your
business is an ongoing, critical challenge. Often, important competitive
advantage is achieved by the company recognizes and applies new methods
effectively first. Often, specialized knowledge or the background to quickly
grasp the business significance of new technology readily available in-house. It
can take valuable time to create such a resource yourself. An interim technical
executive can plan and execute the project while building the team that will
take over and manage the on-going operation.
Proposal Management:
On large tenders/bids,
extensive bid specs are sometimes involved. Input often comes from many sources
and deadlines are often short. And then it has to make sense when it is all
finished! The ability to manage a wide range of people such as technical,
artistic, clerical and legal, can be quite challenging. Proper communication
with senior management that includes an understanding of how business works will
also ensure that all necessary sign-offs are achieved in a timely but informed
fashion.
